The farce, Act Your Age, was written in 1943 by the Minnesota
playwright William Davidson (1897-1982). This seems one of the earliest
examples of a strange American phenomenon. A play written for, and
mainly performed by, US High Schools, with perhaps a smattering of
performances by local and church amateur dramatic groups.
Like Streetcars and Mind of Her Own, this type of play proved
exceptionally popular in the USA up to the early 1970s. Not
infrequently, a sound spanking was an integral part of the script! |
