The Power of Theatrical Madness 1984 |

Original title: De macht der theaterlijke
dwaasheden. This is an avant-garde stage play by the Belgian
choreographer Jan Fabre, first performed on the Venice Biennale in 1984.
It is four and a half hours long and features a
lot of nudity on stage. This includes a scene in which a man is seated
in the middle of the stage and is hand-spanking a fully naked woman
in the classic OTK position. There was a new production in English of the Power of Theatrical Madness in 2012 at the Burgtheater in Vienna, choreographed by Fabre and his theatre company, Troubleyn. The above left scene is from this production. Click HERE for full trailer with scene. We are aware of one further performance, in 2016, at the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam. Otherwise, it does not seem to have been any great success. |
